It’s 3pm on a Friday afternoon. It’s been a long few days and the weekend is finally in sight. Then you remember and the horror begins to dawn on you. You’ve signed up to do a spin class at 7:30 tonight. In a moment of madness last week, you and your best friend decided that you were going on a new quest of self-improvement which meant Friday night would be gym night and not gin night. To go or not to go? That’s the question. You’re ill? Working late? What other excuse could you possibly come up with as a valid reason for not wanting to exercise on a Friday night?!

Thousands of fitness professionals and bloggers claiming that fasting is making them feel healthier, more alert and gives them a clearer mind but is there any medical research that actually backs this? Fasting diets are never the same. You can fast for a set amount of hours a day, for full days, alternating days, with water, without water… it depends on the reason and how much determination you’ve got!

So many of us are guilty of trying fad diets and ridiculously intense workout sessions to try and lose weight before a holiday or trying to fit back in to our favourite outfit that has become slightly too tight. But how many of us put all the effort in for a few weeks and then go back to our old habits?
Weight loss is more likely to be more effective when at least 150 minutes of exercise is done a week and with just 45 minutes of exercise helping to eliminate 500 calories off your daily diet, it doesn’t take long to start seeing the effects. Combined with a healthy, balanced diet this can equate to an easy few pounds lost every week if done daily.
