Are you ready for April?

If you’re a regular gym-goer, you may sometimes find yourself in that uncomfortable situation of actually having to talk to someone in the gym.

Whether it’s someone wanting to find out tips for chest day, or trying to understand how HIIT classes actually work, it can sometimes feel like you’re speaking a second language to any outsiders. My mum would testify to this, she frequently looks bewildered whenever I mention phrases such as “super-set” or “bulking season.”

With that said, you may know someone or may have struck up a conversation with someone who says they go to CrossFit. If you’re like me, you may have nodded and tried to pretend you know what they’re talking about. I blame myself for this, for being a man. It comes from a long history of never reading the instruction manual and giving false directions – whilst not deliberately – to  strangers. I get it from my dad: again my mum would testify to this.

You may have seen activeNewham announcing recently that we will be investing £150,000 into the redevelopment and refurbishment of Newham Leisure Centre’s Sports Hall. This will be to transform the facility into a state-of-the-art sports hall which will include a brand new floor, new courts for volleyball and short tennis. But, importantly, it will also include the installation of  Prince Regent CrossFit, the newest CrossFit in London!

CrossFit is advertised in four words: “THE SPORT OF FITNESS.”

With constantly varied, high-intensity functional movements, CrossFit is a training program that builds strength and conditioning through extremely varied and challenging workouts.

Each day the workout is different, not specialising in one particular thing, but rather with the goal of building a body that’s capable of practically anything and everything.

WHO is CrossFit for?

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability, which makes it perfect for any committed individual regardless of experience, size, or age. Rather than having one workout for older women and another for hard-core athletes – there is one workout each day that is completely scalable, based on each person’s skill.

With honest training you will get honest results. CrossFit is designed for you to push yourself with varying exercises which will challenge your body. Alongside expert training and coaching you will have everything you need to reach your health and fitness goals: be that weight loss, building muscle, toning up or improving your athletic ability.

WHAT kind of movements are in CrossFit?

Obviously this is not an exhaustive list of all the movements, but a flavour of things for you to expect.

Is it WORTH it?

CrossFit is substantially more expensive than regular gym memberships or classes at a standard gym or leisure centre; however, as with any premium product you will be expected to pay a premium price. For example, a Ferrari is always going to be more expensive than a Citroen Saxo. With this membership, we offer a distinct service:

  • Women only classes
  • Constant coaching and support from expert staff
  • Introductory sessions every weekend – every member or non-member will have 1 free engagement session, running every Saturday and Sunday between 11:00 – 12:00
  • New and fully equipped area with competition grade Wolverson equipment
  • Access to all activeNewham’s other leisure facilities (subject to terms and conditions)
  • Unlimited sessions and free of commitment membership - three sessions of CrossFit per day, Mondays with four - a total of 22 hours per week
  • Large outdoor space
  • CrossFit Open box every day - members can train or stretch at will

CrossFit will be available at activeNewham come this April. Since its birth in 2000, CrossFit has grown into a powerhouse in the health and fitness industry, incorporating elements from Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, gymnastics, and HIIT training to name just a few. It’s easy to see why it’s become so popular for people from all walks of life.

As of April you may find yourself having more awkward convocations with CrossFitter’s in Newham. As the old phrase goes - if you can’t beat them, join them!

Register your interest in CrossFit before Sunday April 16 and get a full activeNewham membership and CrossFit sessions for just £100 per month, for life! That is a saving of £39 per month and £468 per year, so be sure to take advantage of this great CrossFit founder membership before it's too late!
