On The Go 24/7!

24 hr celestial-2.jpgLife these days is non- stop. We get up early to go to work, leave work to go and catch up with friends, go shopping or do menial tasks like the house work. With work taking up the majority of our time, it’s no wonder that at weekends, most people would rather chill out or make the most of their free time rather than spend it exercising.

In a bid to lower obesity and diabetes rate, the Government suggests we should be doing at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. Although it doesn’t seem like much, it’s left some people wondering how exactly they’re supposed to fit it in. Some days it’s easier than others, but sometimes it just seems that there’s not enough hours in the day!

Here at activeNewham we know how important it is for everyone to be getting their daily exercise which is why we’re doing everything we can to make our gyms as accessible as they can be. That’s why we now have the gym at Balaam Leisure Centre open for 24 hours a day!

Did you know exercising at night also comes with a lot of benefits?

  • Better muscle strength. Those who exercise at night have been found to have a higher time of exhaustion and anaerobic capacity compared to those who work out in the morning meaning they can keep going for longer!
  • More energy. Those who work out in the morning often find that they can still be half asleep when they’re exercising and therefore aren’t necessarily going to be getting the most out of their training.
  • Fewer people at the gym. The majority of people head to their gym at peak time, either before or after work or at the weekends. When gyms get busier, you can’t always get on the piece of equipment you want right away and if you do, you feel obliged to do your half an hour and then let someone else have a turn.
  • Better sleep. Although some people argue that it gives them more energy, most people find that once they’re in bed, they actually settle down much easier and have a good night’s sleep.
  • Stress relief. It’s a healthy way to clear any tension from the day by releasing endorphins which in turn will leave you in a happier, more relaxed mood!

So whether you're a night owl or early bird, there's always a suitable time for you to get to the gym!

Newham is a vibrant area and is seems to be the borough that doesn’t sleep, so why not head down to Balaam and try out all the new facilities. There is a member of staff managing the centre throughout the night session so there will always be someone around to help or ask if you have any questions.
